I have several PDF files that I would like to import into IDEA to perform an analysis but I need to join to another DB so I thought I could import as the PDF and then export as an excel file. Is that possible? I'm having issues getting the files as excel but have them as PDF already.

Sure that is possible. You would do the import of the pdf using the report reader, once the information is in IDEA you can do an export to Excel or another format.
