Continuing from Part 1 of the discussion post yesterday to test the validity of the PAN Number we look at testing the first 5 digits of the PAN for occurrence of any number or special character in the first 5 digits. As we mentioned in Part 1 below the first 5 digits of the PAN must necessarily be only character - letter representations.

We look at a series of posts on testing the validity of the Income Tax Unique Registration Number - Permanent Account Number (PAN) in India using IDEA.
 
The length of the PAN is 10 digits and it is an alphanumeric combination.
